Find answers to commonly asked questions about our products and services.
What areas of Victoria do you service?
ALS Civil is based locally however we service a wide region. We regularly operate in Bendigo / Central Victoria. For larger domestic or rural projects, we are happy to travel further afield. Contact us to check if we service your location, or go to our contact page to check our listing of Service Areas.
Do I need to arrange my own soil removal or permits?
We aim to make the process as stress-free as possible. For most site cuts and excavation jobs, we can quote to include soil removal and disposal. Regarding permits, while we can offer guidance based on our 20+ years of experience, the property owner is generally responsible for obtaining final council approval. However, we can help you understand what might be required.
How much does a horse arena cost to build?
The cost of horse arena construction varies depending on the size (e.g., standard 60x20m), the slope of your land, and your chosen surface material (sand, rubber, or wood chips). A significant part of the cost is ensuring the drainage and sub-base are done correctly to prevent waterlogging. We provide free, transparent quotes so you know exactly what your specific site requires.
Can you work in tight access areas?
Yes. We have a range of machinery suitable for tight access excavation. Whether it’s a backyard trenching job for plumbing or preparing a site for a new shed, we have the right equipment to get in and out without damaging your property.
What is the difference between a “site cut” and a “site scrape”?
A site scrape typically involves removing just the top layer of vegetation and topsoil. A site cut is a more intensive earthworks process where we excavate and level the land to specific engineering heights (using laser levelling) to create a flat pad for a house slab or shed. We specialize in both.
Do I need to check for underground cables before you start digging?
Absolutely. Safety is our priority.
Before we break ground on any excavation or trenching project, it is essential to know what lies beneath. We strongly recommend all clients use the free Before You Dig Australia (BYDA) service to lodge an enquiry.
– Visit BYDA: www.byda.com.au
– Tip: We can assist you with interpreting these plans once you have them.
Do I need a permit to remove trees or clear vegetation on my block?
In Victoria, removing native vegetation often requires a planning permit from your local council, although there are some exemptions for bushfire protection (such as the 10/30 and 10/50 rules) and fence lines. It is crucial to check before you clear, as penalties can be severe.
– Check the Rules: Visit the Victorian Government’s Native Vegetation Removal Regulations page.
– Bushfire Exemptions: Read about the specific Bushfire Protection Exemptions to see if they apply to your property.
What happens if we find unexpected rock during the excavation?
Yes, we offer international shipping to selected countries. During the checkout process, you will be able to see if your country is eligible for shipping. Please note that additional customs fees or taxes may apply upon delivery, which are the responsibility of the recipient.
Are you insured?
Yes, ALS Civil is fully insured with Public Liability insurance. We are also fully licensed and compliant with all Victorian Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) regulations, giving you peace of mind that your project is in professional hands.
